Colleges Must Learn How to Pay Their Bills September 29th, 2014 We have reached a tipping point in public opinion with forecasts by some that as many as one-third of America’s private colleges and universities may not survive the next ten years in their current form. While this represents perhaps three percent of the total enrollment in American colleges and universities, the impact on breadth, access and choice would be catastrophic. Additionally, the continued cut back in state funding to public institutions in most of the country that small student-to-endowment per capita ratios, declining student enrollment and general revenue projections only worsen further paints a bleak picture for American higher education.
